Budva is a city in Montenegro located on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. It is the most famous resort in the country, with beautiful beaches and an outstanding historical center.

Old Town

Budva has a small but very nice Old Town with typical Mediterranean charm and several ancient sights. The old town is still surrounded by ramparts from the 15th century, which include a medieval fortification system with city gates, defensive walls and towers. It consists of narrow streets and alleys, small squares and precious monuments of the past.

Citadel of Saint Mary

One of the most monumental buildings in the Old Town is the medieval fortress or Citadel of Saint Mary. It was first mentioned in 1425. The Citadel includes gates, ramparts, barracks and the ruins of St. Mary's Church.

Church of Saint John

It is impossible not to notice the high tower in Budva. It is visible from any part of the city. The Church of St. John is the largest and most famous church in the Old Town. It was built in the 12th century on the ruins of the old church.
From the outside, the church has an ascetic appearance, but inside it is richly decorated and houses exhibits from the 15th to 17th centuries. Parts of the ancient wall and foundation are now preserved in the Budva Museum. There is also a magnificent library with old, rare books, ancient incunabula, archival documents. In the church of St. John in Budva, you can see an icon of the Virgin Mary with baby Jesus. This Virgin of Budva is considered miraculous, and was brought here from the neighboring church of St. Mary. It is assumed that the icon was painted by Saint Luke himself. That is why it is sacred for both Catholic and Orthodox believers. Also, other prominent canvases are kept in the church. For example, the icon of Saints Peter and Paul.

Church of the Holy Trinity

The Church of the Holy Trinity is an Orthodox church built at the beginning of the 19th century. Inside, the church is decorated with a beautiful iconostasis by Greek icon painters from the 19th century.

Dancer

The dancer is a sculpture in the seaside town of Budva. It is located between the rocks, between the Old Town and Mogren beach. The bronze sculpture of a dancer is a symbol of Budva.
This is the work of sculptor Gradimir Aleksić, who found inspiration in an old local legend about a girl who had a fiance - a sailor. The sailor sailed far away, and every morning the girl came to this rock and looked at the open sea, waiting for the return of her fiance. She spent whole days, months and years, looking at the endless expanses of the sea in anticipation, but the ship with the young man never returned. Since then, the sculpture has become not only a symbol of eternal love and devotion, but also a place where wishes are imagined. The dancer sculpture is one of the most popular and often photographed sights.

Sveti Stefan Island - a prestigious resort

The island of Sveti Stefan is located near Budva. The island is connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus. It is surrounded by pink pebble beaches and azure waters of the Adriatic Sea.
